New "Teaching Videos" for Come Follow Me Youth Curriculum

Did you know?

There are 23 new(ish) teaching videos on the Come Follow Me website.

They show teachers and learners in actual classrooms participating in many of the suggested learning experiences from Come Follow Me.

They are short (1 1/2 to 2 minutes), easily downloaded, and ideal for teacher and learner training.

We've learned about the new approach to learning, now we get to see what it looks like in action.

They are extremely helpful!

General Conference Wordles

How fun is this!

I just created a 'wordle' (word cloud) from Sister Elaine Dalton's General Young Women Meeting talk, "Be Not Moved!"  In the colors of the choir, of course.

I got the idea from a Keepapitchinin blog post showing wordles for the recent General Conference and General Young Women Meeting talks. Word size reflects frequency of usage so you can instantly see what was emphasized.

Here's a wordle of Sister Dalton's General Conference talk, "We are Daughters of our Heavenly Father."

Why not show a few of these to your young women and see if they can guess the talk? Or better yet - invite them to make a wordle of their favorite talk and share it with in Young Women class on Sunday.

You can go to wordle.net to try making your own word clouds.

Pinterest - a peak into our new Young Women General President

What fun!

Sister Bonnie Oscarson, our new Young Women General President, has a darling Pinterest account with  45 boards, 2340 pins, and 531 followers (as of now). I expect her number of followers will sky-rocket.

I love her description: "If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report, or praiseworthy, we seek after these things." And may I add just downright cute to the list?

And her pins are so cute.

What a fun new president we have. I can't wait to learn more about her. It will be interesting to see the perspective her experiences as a mission president's wife and a temple matron will bring to her leadership.

Breaking news - I just looked at her Pinterest account and she now has 3,839 followers (and climbing). What a wonderful way to spread goodness.

Here's my favorite pin from her boards - love her sense of humor!

April 2013 General Conference Highlights for Youth

It's amazing how quickly General Conference resources are available online. Many good people must be working hard and late to get this done for us.

Brief, downloadable video highlights of the April 2013 General Conference and the General Young Women Meeting are available on youth.lds.org

They make great discussion starters at home, or in the classroom.

You might think about using the excerpt from Russel M. Nelson's talk, "Catch the Wave"  in the "Come Follow Me" unit on The Apostasy and the Restoration (actually - I'd take a good look at his entire talk for this unit - it's perfect).

General Conference Memes

What's a Meme?

It's basically a concept that rapidly travels from person to person. You can read more about internet memes on Wikipedia.

A common format is a word poster.

After each General Conference, memes quickly appear. They are fun to share and remember highlights.

The LDS Media Talk blog has collected quite a few, considering it's only the day after conference. I'm impressed. You can pin these to Pinterest if you'd like. Or download and share them (on a mac, right click, save image as).

An easy way to share some memes is through facebook on the Deseret Book facebook page.

Or you could invite young women to create and share their own.....
